Orange County Laser Hair Removal: Ingrown Hair, Bikini, Back, Face, Arms
The laser system that is used emits a beam of light which penetrate the skin and is absorbed
by the hair follicles. The energy from the beam of light is then transformed into heat and can
disable the hair follicles. To make the treatment more comfortable we use the latest technology
to cool your skin using an integrated cooled sapphire tip with a Zimmer cooling device which
increases patient comfort and safety.
Type of system used:
Sonata Laser by Alma (formally Orion) is FDA cleared for safety and remains the gold standard
treatment of unwanted hair by using CW Pulse ™ Technology a unique technology uses a combination
of overlapping pulses to selectively heat the hair without damaging the skin and resulting in
less pain with better results. Dr. Roham also uses an additional cooling device that helps
protect the skin by selectively cooling the upper layer of the skin while treating the unwanted
hair.
What does laser hair removal feel like?
The first sensation that patients feel is the cooling tip of the device, then patients report a
slight tingling when the light is emitted. Although some areas of the body are more sensitive
than others, most patients can tolerate the procedure fairly well.
Who is the ideal candidate for laser hair removal?
Laser Hair Removal is not for everyone; however it is best to have the doctor determine your
candidacy. Laser Hair Removal will yield the best results in individuals with white or dark/tan
skin. One absolute requirement is that the hair must be darker than the surrounding skin.
Why does it take more than one treatment?
Hair grows in cycles. The laser only disables the hair in the active stage of growth at the time
of treatment. It does, however affect the hairs in the early and late stages. The hairs that
return are those that were not in the active stage of growth at the time of the treatment. They
appear lighter in color and finer in texture. We do see some results after just one treatment,
but a series of treatments are needed to have a significant clearance of hair.
How many treatments will I need?
Each patient is unique and will also dictate the number of treatments required.
Some individuals will need 6-8 laser treatments. Skin,
hair coloring and coarseness of hair are all contributing factors to the number of treatments
needed. Laser hair removal requires multiple treatments since the hair follicles that are targeted
are in the active growth phase, the approximate number of treatments can be determined upon
consultation.
Are the results permanent?
Results vary depending on skin and hair type. Studies have shown many patients can achieve
permanent hair loss of up to 85-90% and remaining hair returns lighter and softer.
Are there any side-effects?
After the treatment you may experience a slight reddening of the skin similar to sunburn that
will resolve within few hours to days. In certain instances (especially with darker complexions)
temporary pigment changes may occur, but will disappear within a month.
