Mini Face Lift
Aging is a multidimensional process and to have a natural rejuvenated look one must address all the different aspects of aging. The three contributing factors of aging are:
1) Loss of facial volume (addressed by fillers such as Restylane, Juvederm and autologous fat transfers)
2) Skin wrinkling and age spots (treated with peels and lasers)
3) Face and neck sagging and drooping (improved by a lifting procedure)
The mini face lift, often called the “weekend facelift,” addresses the third component of aging and decreases signs of aging in the neck and jaw areas of the face. It is a way of reducing the signs of aging caused by exposure to sun, effects of gravity and every day life stresses. It can eliminate the folds and fat deposits around neck and jaw line. This procedure is also known as rhytidectomy performed by removing excess fat, tightening underlying muscles and repositioning the skin for a more youthful appearance. Most often, this procedure is performed in conjunction with a chemical peel or laser resurfacing and volume restoration with fillers; these two procedures are performed together because a face lift does not change the facial volume and quality of the skin by itself.
The Procedure
A mini lift or quick lift is an outpatient procedure that usually takes one to two hours to perform, depending on the surgeon, the age of the patient, and the degree of correction needed. A mini facelift can be preformed with a local anesthesia and by the way of small incision in the area (hidden by the hair) and then progresses down in front of the ear. Meticulous attention is paid to the placement of the incision to promote an inconspicuous scar.
A mini lift is essentially an extended neck lift which results in a suture suspension neck lift, but the skin of the jowls is also lifted to improve the jowl appearance. In cases where the jowls are heavy, liposuction may be used in addition to lifting of the skin to give a very defined jaw line. Additionally if there are any bands present in the neck they are also removed.
Benefits of Mini Facelift
-Less costly if a full face lift is not needed
-More natural results vs. a done look
-An excellent alternative to facelift for a long term result
-A lighter surgery and faster recovery
Risks
Mini facelift procedures carry fewer risks than traditional facelift procedures because they are less invasive and can be performed under local anesthesia instead of general anesthesia. However like any other type of surgery, there are inherent risks which can include post-operative swelling, bleeding (bruising), visible scarring, nerve damage (often temporary and usually resolve with time). M oreover, refraining from smoking and carefully following the pre-and post-operative surgical instructions reduces the likelihood of these complications.
